Dr. Helena Curbelo
Meet Dr. Helena Curbelo
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Helena Curbelo joined Westhampton Beach Animal Hospital after completing her veterinary degree at Saint George’s University, followed by clinical training at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. She focuses on small animal medicine and also brings experience working with exotics, emergency and critical care teams, and ophthalmology specialty clinics.
Dr. Curbelo is Fear Free certified, which means she uses techniques that help reduce stress and anxiety for pets during their visits. Her calm, patient approach comes from a lifelong love of animals. She grew up surrounded by pets of all kinds, from cats and dogs to reptiles, rabbits, and even chinchillas. That early foundation helped her discover her calling. A formative moment during her clinical year strengthened that commitment when she helped care for a severely ill cat facing a rare condition with a low survival rate. Watching that patient fully recover reminded her why veterinary medicine is such meaningful work.
At home, Dr. Curbelo enjoys life with her two cats, Mamoru and Hemingway. Outside the hospital she loves scuba diving, practicing aerial arts like lyra and static trapeze, and winding down with a good book.
She is excited to care for pets and support families in the Westhampton Beach community.
